Introducing Algier Sensei
(Owner, OKI Karate Studio, Westerly,RI)

Sensei Paul Algier was born and raised in Westerly. He has lived in Westerly,RI his entire life. In 1974, at the age of 21, Sensei was introduced to Shorin-Ryu Karate. Sensei Paul began his martial arts training at the only school in the area owned by Patrick Hayden (RI's father of Karate). He trained at the original downtown school receiving his Black Belt in 1979. Sensei Paul has trained with several famous instructors that earned black belts during this same period; most are still teaching in dojo's today all around the country.
Upon Hayden Sensei's retirement from teaching in 1982, Algier Sensei was given the responsibility of running this famous dojo. He was a Ni-Dan (Second Degree) black belt at the time. After several years of teaching nightly, Algier Sensei, needing to quench his thirst for knowledge, went back to Hayden Sensei for direction. Hayden Sensei introduced Sensei Paul to Sensei Robert Herten from New Jersey. After Sensei Paul was accepted as a student under Sensei Herten, he was promoted 3 more times up to his current rank of Roku Dan (6th Degree Black Belt). Sensei Herten was responsible for introducing Sensei Paul to Master Sensei Iha.  Sensei Paul has been recently accepted as a student and invited into the Shidokan Association under Sensei Paul Snader,  7th Dan, at the National Training Seminar hosted by Master Sensei Iha, held in July 2010 in Lansing, MI, where Sensei Iha resides.
Algier Sensei has been training for over 36 years and has been a certified instructor for over 33 years. In 2002, Sensei Paul opened OKI Karate Studio, offering his services to the public. Please stop in and see him teaching every night during the week. He loves to see and meet new people. Come down and watch Sensei Paul in action doing what he loves most.
